UK Public Health Reports & Intelligence

Independent analysis of the UK public health job market from Public Health Careers Hub.

We use vacancy data to explore how public health roles are advertised, what employers ask for and how the workforce is changing across the UK.

Our analysis is based on observed vacancies captured through PHCH vacancy surveillance. It should be read as an evidence sample, not a census of every UK public health vacancy.

SEPTEMBER 2026

UK Public Health Vacancy Analysis

Trial Report

An analysis of UK public health vacancies identified during September 2026, exploring the types of roles being advertised, where opportunities sit and what the sample tells us about the changing shape of public health careers.

Published October 2026

Vacancy patterns

Which roles are being advertised, where they sit and how public health work appears across different job titles.

What PHCH analyses

Career requirements

Qualifications, experience, skills, seniority and other requirements visible in advertised vacancies.

Workforce signals

Patterns that may help us understand how public health work and recruitment are evolving over time.

Building a clearer picture of the UK public health job market

Public health careers do not sit within one employer, one profession or one set of job titles. Opportunities span the NHS, local authorities, national agencies, universities, charities and other organisations.

PHCH is building a longitudinal vacancy dataset to better understand that market.

The September 2026 analysis is our first trial report. Future analyses will build on the methodology, expand the dataset and allow us to examine patterns over longer periods.
